LP BOILER WATER CONTROL
LP BOILER WATER CONTROL
DESCRIPTION
The development of this particular boiler treatment was promoted by the need for a simplified system of boiler water control. Because MAGNUS L.P.BOILER WATER CONTROL is a liquid, the necessity of dissolving dry powders prior to addition to boilers is eliminated. Storage problems are avoided since there is no caking or hardening which might occur if powdered type treatments become wet or damp. Incorporated in MAGNUS L.P.BOILER WATER CONTROL are phosphate, alkali and sludge conditioners in one easy to use, completely water soluble product.
USES
The use of L.P.BOILER WATER CONTROL offers chemical control over scale forming minerals, physical control over adhesive properties of scale forming salts and corrosion control of boiler metal by maintaining the necessary pH.
As evaporation of boiler water takes place, minute crystals are precipitated from boiler water. If allowed to grow uncontrolled, these crystals tend to adhere to metal surfaces to build on each other to form scale. The use of MAGNUS L.P. BOILER WATER CONTROL prevents their growth and adhesion to boiler surfaces. Conditioned, precipitated scale forming minerals are then easily removed by blow down.

DOSAGE
LPBW CONTROL is initially dosed on the basis of hardness. The dosage needed to maintain zero hardness is approximately one litre of treatment, per one ton of feedwater,
per grain(17ppm) of hardness.
Example: To treat a boiler using 5 tons of feedwater daily having a 3 grain (51ppm) hardness:
5tons X 3 X 25ml = 375ml LPBW CONTROL daily.
The following chart shows calculated doses based on hardness and phosphate tests:
Note: In certain cases, when recommended limit cannot be maintained by LPBW alone, Hardness Control may be used as a supplement to raise phosphate level or Alkalinity Control to raise alkalinity to recommended limits.
QUICK TESTS
For Auxillary Boilers when using Low Pressure Boiler Water Control. Normally MAGNUS recommends that all appropriate tests to be done using LPBW CONTROL. However, these test may be simplified when necessary:
Hardness:
1. If the sample to be tested is highly turbid, it should first be iltered. Any suspended hardness will give erroneous results.
2. Wash shaker bottle thoroughly and rinse with sample to be tested.
3. Fill 50ml of cooled sampl e into the shaker bottle, using the graduated mark on the bottle for a guide.
4. Fill a dropper bottle with Standard Soap Solution. Using the graduated dropper (0.5ml) add apprx. 0.3ml of solution to the water in the shaker bottle. Shake vigorously. Lay the bottle on its side and check to see if the lathers permanent (last 5 minutes).
5. If the lather is not permanent or does not form at all, add more soap solution approx. 0.2ml at a time until a permanent lather is formed. Subtract 0.3ml from the total amount of soap solution added and multiply the result by 20. The result is the amount of hardness present in ppm.
